New Mexico is a beautiful and wild state, but it’s not a place for lax theft laws , in order for us to help lift the state out of poverty we have to prevent craftsman from having their property taken.

Some say that private prisons and the justice system profits off of crime which may very well be so but we must change our strategy in a way to where the community will profit from deterrence more than private or government profiting from crime occurrence.

There are many solutions , one is to hire more officers or to increase social programs , all which are good , however , an all encompassing solution would be extremely tougher property crime laws to deter theft.

Double Fatal Rollover Crash on Interstate 10 in Luna County

Luna County, NM – On May 4, 2021, at approximately 11:42 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a single vehicle fatal rollover crash on Interstate 10 near milepost 109, east of Deming, NM.

The initial investigation indicated a 2006 Ford Expedition SUV, driven by a 36-year-old female from Texas, was traveling east on Interstate 10 when one of the vehicle’s rear tire sustained a blowout. The Ford left the roadway and rolled. There was a total of seven occupants in the Ford at the time of the crash. The driver along with two passengers, an 18-year-old male from Texas, and a 67-year-old female from Nevada, all sustained unknown injuries. All three were transported by Native Air to a hospital in El Paso, TX. Two other female passengers, a 28-year-old and a 70-year-old from Texas, sustained unknown injuries. They were both transported by emergency medical personnel to area hospitals. The 28-year-old was transported to a hospital in Deming, NM and the 70-year-old was transported to a hospital in Las Cruces, NM.

Two other passengers, Revy Mitchell (70) from Texas and Marvin Maxey (63) from Arkansas, were both ejected from the vehicle. They both sustained fatal injuries and they were pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.    

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor and seat belts appear to have not been utilized. This crash is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.

A failure from the get go the A.R.T program has been plagued with destroying businesses , electric busses that don’t work , and because of poor planning we now live with regular accidents up and down central because the busses are dangerously close to the burque drivers. Whether it was a money grab scam or something else we need to fix this A.R.T , a solution would be to place the busses on one side of the street and open up central medians to cross traffic again, but r even better get rid of the busses all together and put a train that goes under the intersections and stretches to Rio Rancho! Now that will bring added revenue , make it safer and connect Rio Rancho better, hey let’s go Albuquerque, let’s go train status !

Governor Signs Abortion Bill, Republican Senators Respond

SANTA FE – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham today signed legislation to repeal New Mexico’s abortion law. Senate Bill 10, sponsored by Democratic Senator Linda Lopez (District 11-Bernalillo) and others, repealed an entire section of law that among other things protected medical professionals from being forced to participate in abortions and required that abortions be performed by licensed physicians.

Senate Republicans responded to the Governor’s action with the following statements:

“Though the Governor and pro-abortion activists will claim this as a victory for women, the only victor in this bill is the multi-million dollar abortion industry,” said Senator Crystal Diamond (District 35-Dona Ana, Hidalgo, Luna, and Sierra). “With the stroke of her pen, the Governor has weakened standards of care for women, stripped conscience protections for medical professionals, and given the abortion industry unchecked power to operate under the radar in our state. New Mexico women and children deserve better.”

“This is a sad day for New Mexico,” added Senator Gregg Schmedes (District 19-Bernalillo, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Torrance). “Pro-abortion activists have not been shy about their disregard for unborn children’s lives. Their actions during this Legislative Session, however, exposed their deeper motivations – forcing doctors and nurses to perform abortions

State Police Checkpoints and Saturation Patrols in Counties across the State in March 2021

Statewide – State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints; saturation patrols; and registration, insurance and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of March 2021.

We are bringing awareness to these events in an effort to reduce alcohol related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising. These checkpoints are helping to change society’s attitude about drinking and driving.

Hundreds of lives could be saved each year if every driver had the courage to make the right decision not to drink and drive.

Luna County, NM – On February 4, 2021, a New Mexico State Police Officer stationed in Deming, NM was assisting Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). The officer initiated a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet pickup truck on Interstate 10 eastbound, near mile marker 101 east of Deming, New Mexico.

During the traffic stop, the driver identified as Omar Felix Cueva (39) fired at least one shot at New Mexico State Police Officer Darian Jarrott. Officer Jarrott was struck and killed by gunfire. An HSI agent arrived on scene and notified New Mexico State Police dispatch that an officer was down. A broadcast was put out to state and local law enforcement agencies. A New Mexico State Police officer located Cueva traveling east on Interstate 10 near mile marker 116. Cueva pulled over at the exit and fired at New Mexico State Police officers. The officers returned fire. A pursuit was initiated as Cueva continued to evade officers, traveling east on Interstate 10. 

During the pursuit, other New Mexico State Police officers successfully utilized tire deflation devices near the Picacho exit on Interstate 10 and near milepost 135 by Las Cruces, NM. Cueva continued to flee east on Interstate 10. At that time officers from the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD), the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office (DASO), a U.S. Border Patrol agent (USBP) assisted New Mexico State Police with the pursuit. A LCPD Officer utilized a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver near milepost 140. As the pickup came to a stop, Cueva exited the vehicle armed with a firearm and shot multiple rounds towards the officers and deputies. Officers from LCPD, NMSP, DASO, and USBP returned fire towards Cueva, who was struck at least once.

Officers rendered aid to Cueva until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene. Cueva sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.  

One Las Cruces Police officer was struck by gunfire. The officer was airlifted to a trauma hospital in Texas where he was treated and released for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.  

This investigation is active and being led by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau The identities of the deputies, officers, and Border Patrol agent involved will not be released until all interviews are completed. The New Mexico State Police officers have been placed on standard leave. Please reach out to DASO, LCPD, and Border Patrol for administrative inquiries regarding their deputies and officers. 

Officer Darian Jarrott began his career as a Transportation Inspector with NMDPS. He was certified as a law enforcement officer in December of 2014 and worked with the former Motor Transportation Division of NMDPS. In July of 2015, he was sworn in as a New Mexico State Police officer where he bravely served until today. Officer Jarrott leaves behind 3 small children and was expecting his fourth child this year. Out of respect for Officer Jarrott, please refrain from contacting his family as they mourn the loss of our fallen hero.
