New Mexicans don’t appreciate having their intelligence insulted, and they certainly don’t like being lied to. Yet that is exactly what many believe is happening when the Republican Party refuses to take accountability for its record.

The numbers speak for themselves. Prices on everyday necessities—from lettuce to fuel—have remained high, tariffs have created economic challenges, and job growth has dramatically fallen short of expectations. Despite these concerns, party leaders often act as though everything is fine. It isn’t.

When elected officials refuse to acknowledge problems or accept responsibility, many voters see it as dismissive of the people they represent. That is why many New Mexicans are expected to support Democratic candidates this November.
